Headsprout <sup>®</sup> Early Reading for children with severe intellectual disabilities: a single blind randomised controlled trial

Research evaluating phonics reading programs for children with severe intellectual disabilities (ID) is limited. The current study investigated whether using an online program (Headsprout® Early Reading; HER) as supplementary instruction a ID leads to improvements in skills compared not receiving this additional instruction. Fifty-five from special school were randomly allocated into the HER group or waiting list control group. For six months, intervention received instruction, whereas only ‘reading usual’ teaching. Pre- and post-intervention tests on standardised measures conducted. Analysis of data outcome indicated that made at comparison group, medium effect sizes two domains main measure. These results support case larger research trial ID.
